Precious Baby Shower Cake.

This is a baby shower cake from a couple weeks ago that I never had a chance to post. The shower invitation showed a little baby on a stack of books and the client asked that I keep a neutral theme but incorporate the design from the invitation.

The bottom tier includes little yellow teddy bears. And I had to add a bow because it fit and I really do love bows!

Happy Viewing!

Happy 1st Birthday Lily Ladybug!

When you order a custom cake, it's just that, CUSTOM! There are very few rules. Often questions are asked regarding what I "can" and "can't" do... If it isn't copyrighted and your budget allows for it, we "can" generally do it.

This was one of those cakes... Yes, ladybugs are generally red or brown. BUT it's a custom cake... make it any color you want! Want some bling??? No problem! And you know, I have to say, it's WAY cuter than it would have been if we followed all the rules.

Have fun with your cakes. They should be reflective of you and your style. And if you can dream it up... we can probably make it edible!

A Choo Choo for Riley...

I was completely baffled when the client asked for a train theme cake in blue. I'm not sure why... Maybe because it's all Thomas these days... I just kept thinking in circles and not getting anywhere. UNTIL I went online in search of inspiration. By the time I was done I had my plan and knew exactly what I wanted to do. Thankfully my Blue Thomas the Train Mental Block had been vanquished!

I prepped most of the cake ahead. And was almost finished with assembly when my husband walked by. He said... Oh... wouldn't it be cool if you had a skywriter airplane write the little boys name in the clouds? ABSOLUTELY!!! YES it would be very cool... but I'm almost done... Thanks hun! Now I have more work to do!

This is normal... Between my husband, my kids, the internet, television, and magazines, I find myself inundated with amazing ideas and adding to a cake when really... it wasn't necessary. But it is soooo cute! So, Riley got a skywriter. Such a clever husband I have! In all honesty, it's my favorite part of the train cake... Oh well! It's always the details that make a cake pop.

Happy Birthday Little Man!

Cake Stats: Bottom tier is vanilla with chocolate chip filling. Middle tier is chocolate with peanut butter cup filling, and top tier is red velvet (no filling). Iced in buttercream and covered in fondant.

The train cars are made of a mix of fondant and gum paste. The 2 on the top of the cake is gum paste. The clouds are buttercream.

A Triple Celebration Cake.

I love fun cakes where the client tells me to do whatever I want because they trust me! This particular cake is for a triple Birthday, a 33rd, a 30th, and a 2nd.

They asked that the cake be really fun and festive and not gender specific. It was also requested that the cake say "Weaverpalooza" because that is what they are calling their Birthday celebration event.

When the client came to pick it up she was thrilled and said it is "Sooooo Weaverpalooza!". I love it when a client is thrilled!

Happy Birthday Devon (Mama Cheaps), Bob, and Lily!!!

Cake Stats: Double Chocolate Cake with Buttercream filling. Iced in buttercream and covered with fondant. The stars shooting out of the cake are gum paste and painted with a little pearl shimmer and disco dust. They are mounted on wires and slid into skinny straws in the cake. The Curly Q's are gum paste. The shimmer on the black fondant is hologram disco dust.

Slay the Dragon!!!

I had a client contact me about a cake for her daughter's Sweet 16 and she was looking for a Jabberwocky. They were planning an Alice In Wonderland theme Birthday Party and wanted to be able to "slay the dragon" at cake time. She was also looking into getting Petit Fours with labels that say "eat me", etc. Really cute idea. The Jabberwocky... Not so cute! This was the first time I spoke to a cake while I was working on it and told it to stop creeping me out. HA!

This is the second dragon cake I've done in a few months for a Sweet 16. I don't know... I always thought of a Sweet 16 as a sort of Prissy/Frilly event. I guess I'm wrong. Dragons seem to be the in thing.

Meet the Jabberwocky!

A Perfectly Pink Gift Bag for a Chic Juicy Girl.

It is so much fun to sit and make things pretty. And in all honesty, could a pink gift bag get any more adorable? With the bows by the twisted rope handles and the gems scattered on the cake board, it's like a girlie explosion!

This is two 8" square cakes cut in half and stacked into two tiers. The base of the gift bag was iced before I set the top tier on so that there would be adequate icing for each serving. It's odd to have a cake tiered so that you can't see the tiers. But it works out well when it comes to serving the cake to your guests.

The tissue paper is gum paste and everything you see is edible. The pattern on the front of the bag is a combination of painting and cutting gumpaste from a template.

Happy Caking!

A Tail Waggin' Grooms Cake

Here is a grooms cake for a client. The dog is modeled after the client's pet. Wedding bands sit on the pillow.

White Almond Sour Cream cake with Raspberry filling (home made of course!) Cake is iced in buttercream and covered in fondant.

I airbrushed the base of the cake with doggy spots before applying the design. It adds a little dimension and brings the pet down into the cake a little more.

As a grooms cake, I went with the colors in the dog to keep it "manly".

Happy Caking!

A Simply Stunning Wedding Cake for a Simply Stunning Bride!

Congratulations to the happy couple! Monica asked for an ivory cake with silver ribbon, pearls, and a little bling. She asked that it be streamlined and elegant.

The topper and orchids were provided by the bride so you'll see the cake before and after these items were added. What you can't see in the photos is all the shimmer on this cake. I used nearly an entire jar of edible glitter and the whole cake shimmers. It looked so pretty! It actually makes me sad that the sparkle didn't come through in the photographs. Oh well...

I wasn't sure about ivory and silver combination. BUT I actually love it! See... sometimes the cake designer DOESN'T know it all!

A super busy week in cake! From Graduations to Dragons...

I finally finished this weeks cakes! The first cake I'm showing you was done for a friend's son. She is a pastry chef and makes YUMMY treats but she doesn't do the kind of sculpting and detail work I do. So... she decided to order her son's cake so she could try one of my creations first hand. This is a chocolate cake with peanut butter cup filling. You can check out Stefanie's desserts at Decadent Desserts by Stefanie. I recommend the Rocher!! YUMMY!

The second cake was done for a graduation. This client requested stacked books with a graduation cap and the graduate wearing his future college's t-shirt. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Although... this is one HEAVY cake!!! White Almond Sour Cream cake with raspberry filling and yellow cake with chocolate ganache.

This final cake was done for a client who originally called Charm City Cakes for a quote. And to my surprise, Charm City Cakes told her to call ME!!! I was so excited to get a referral from CCC that I sent them a big old box of Holiday Crunch! Anyway... the client asked for a blue dragon with black accents and a crystal ball. The crystal ball is made of sugar and resulted in 3 blisters on the palms of my hands! OUCH! This cake is 100% edible! Vanilla cake with buttercream filling. I'm very pleased with the results of this guy. I was a little nervous starting out as I was afraid it would just look like a big lizard... that is until I realized that a dragon IS a big lizard! Enjoy!

A contemporary Sweet 16...

The Topsy Turvey Cake, also known as a Mad Hatter or Whimsical cake might be a lot of work but the end result really is very cool. These cakes are designed to look like they are about to topple over but in reality the topsy effect is an optical illusion. These are level cakes stacked on top of each other. With the right support system, they are very stable cakes.

Made for a client in Huntingdon Valley, this one was requested in lime green, black, purple, and white with zebra stripes, dots, and stars bursting from the cake. It's definitely fun and has a contemporary spin.

Romantic Rose Cupcake Tree

This is for a bridal shower. It goes with the cupcakes in the previous post. Just love how romantic the whole thing turned out. My instructions were to make this cupcake tree similar to the princess cupcake tree in my portfolio only with different shades of pink roses and white accents. And to make it feminine and romantic.

Congratulations to the Bride to be!

Baptism Cake for a little miracle.

This is a very special occasion cake. Mom and Dad had to get some help to get this little angel so she holds a particularly special place in their hearts. After years of trying, they got their miracle so her baptism is a momentous occasion. Mom wants it to be a day to remember. So she ordered an extra special cake. Congratulations Lily!
