The Best of Mitzvah's!
Whether it's a Bar Mitzvah, Bat Mitzvah, or B'Nai Mitzvah, it's a special event and a very important milestone! It's always exciting to get to create a special cake for these events. In fact, Mitzvah's are one of my FAVORITE events to design a cake for. It's the one time where we get to go totally nuts and so some really crazy and amazing stuff!
I hope you enjoy looking at these cakes as much as we enjoyed creating them!

Skateboarding Birthday Cake

I know I'm going to date myself with this post but the words that kept going through my head while working on the graffiti for this cake were things like RADICAL, DUDE, FAR OUT, RIGHT ON etc... I hate to consciously resist my urges and for the most part stick with what I found online. Thanks to the internet, this boy likely won't question what is written on his cake.

This is a chocolate chip cake with chocolate icing. Covered in fondant, airbrushed, and embellished. The boy is gum paste, as is the skateboard. The railing is made up of skewers painted with a mix of silver and black airbrush color.
Overall, I'm very happy. My 5 year old thinks it's the coolest cake I've ever made. My 8 year old says it's not... he likes the monster trucks better. ha ha
Anyway... Happy Birthday to Anthony!

Happy 1st Birthday Lily Ladybug!
When you order a custom cake, it's just that, CUSTOM! There are very few rules. Often questions are asked regarding what I "can" and "can't" do... If it isn't copyrighted and your budget allows for it, we "can" generally do it.
This was one of those cakes... Yes, ladybugs are generally red or brown. BUT it's a custom cake... make it any color you want! Want some bling??? No problem! And you know, I have to say, it's WAY cuter than it would have been if we followed all the rules.

Have fun with your cakes. They should be reflective of you and your style. And if you can dream it up... we can probably make it edible!

Ford Mustang Car Cake

A friend of mine thinks I'm nuts because I actually enjoy car cakes. From Monster trucks to regular cars, I truly enjoy the creative process. There's something satisfying to start with layers of cake and carve it away to reveal a sculpture beneath. But it doesn't end there... then starts the process of laying Fondant down on the clean pallet and building it up to reveal the ridges, curves, and details that bring the car to life. When it is all said and done, if you know what kind of car it is without having to be told, I did my job! If you can't... well.... we won't talk about that!
I hope you enjoy! Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and don't forget to say a prayer for those who have given up so much to ensure the liberties we enjoy on a daily basis.

Nursery Friends Baby Shower Cake
How do I pick a favorite cake when each weekend I get to do a cake with its own unique theme that has so many great elements. I just love how cute this cake turned out. My client provided fabric swatches, plates, invitations, napkins, and anything else they had from the shower theme so I could match it. My instructions were to add the gingham check and make sure there was a cute giraffe sitting on a blanket.
So... this weekend... another new favorite. I just love my job!

Harley Davidson Surprise 60th Birthday Cake
This client was surprising her husband with a 60th Birthday Party. He has a Harley Davidson Touring Bike. It's BIG and he loves it! She wanted to reflect his love for riding in his cake so she provided photos of the Birthday Boy and his motorcycle so I could replicate them. I happened to run into her at the Country Club when I delivered the Cake and was thrilled with her reaction. I love a happy customer!
So here it is. Orange and Black Harley Colors with a modified Harley Logo to reflect the occasion. The cake topper is sculpted entirely out of gum paste and then I gave the bike a custom paint job to match the real thing.

Three tiers of cake consisting of White Almond Sour Cream Cake with Raspberry Filling and Double Chocolate with Raspberry Filling.

Tennis Court Birthday Cake - For the not so athletically inclined
When I got the call for this order I started laughing right away. The Birthday boy is turning 50 and his wife wanted a cake to reflect his love for Tennis. Unfortunately he and his tennis buddies aren't the "BEST" tennis players so this cake was to reflect her observations.
The requests for the players included:
1. Birthday Boy on his face with a ball in his ear.
2. Man 2 with a pink tennis skirt.
3. Man 3 by the net falling, getting hit with a ball, tennis racket on it's way down.
4. Man 4 with tennis elbow. Would rather be golfing, so give him a golf club instead of a racket.

All requests filled. Too funny. Lots going on and took about an hour each to sculpt the men. The most difficult were the men that are upright. The men laying down were so much easier.
White Almond Sour Cream Cake with buttercream and fondant. All fondant and gum paste accents. Net is made from Gum Paste and allowed to dry overnight.

Circular Saw Cake for a woodworker in Bucks County, PA

Made this cake for a client. Her husband really enjoys working with wood and she wanted something to reflect his personality for his Birthday. I really like how it turned out and LOVE the saw dust. It's actually the base of a cute little snowman cookie that is shaved on a cheese grater. My son actually thought I put sawdust on the cake! Too funny!
The delivery was thoroughly nerve wracking but the cake arrived in one piece and my client as well as her husband were thrilled!
