A Lion, a Monkey, & Bear... OH MY!

If you've hung around my blog for any length of time, you know I'm drawn to "cute" stuff. So this cake was right up my alley. The relatively simple although time consuming design was perfect compliment to the cute little critters that graced the top of the cake. The inspiration came from the party decorations and the little man's bedroom. The actual design of the animals was a combination of my imagination and some pictures I found online.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that finds these little critters adorable. Especially since I'm the one that sculpted them. I just love how precious they are and how sweet the little giraffe looks.

This is the smash cake (cake specifically for the 1 year old to "smash" as is tradition in most of the US) with a 1 and a little monkey on top. I'm particularly drawn to the expression on the monkey's face. It's almost as if he knows what the little hand coming toward him is about to do.

The bottom border of the cakes have these vertical stripes that were cut into 1" strips. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, although it was somewhat time consuming. I cut up the leftover strips of fondant to use as confetti.

In the end, I was able to deliver the cakes to a very happy mother who gave me a hug and said she would see me for Birthday #2. Success!

Happy Birthday Francesca!

This is a Birthday Cake for one of my best client's. She requested Red Velvet Cake to serve 20 people and then told me that I could design her Birthday Cake ANY WAY I WANTED! Now that's a cake I can get REALLY excited about.

I decided to do a design in black, white, and red that was sharp and crisp. Because that's how I see her. The design on the side of the cake was painted freehand. The red roses are made from gumpaste, as are the rose petals, and the leaves. The black on the top of the cake is piped in buttercream.

Happy Birthday Francesca!

Skateboarding Birthday Cake

I know I'm going to date myself with this post but the words that kept going through my head while working on the graffiti for this cake were things like RADICAL, DUDE, FAR OUT, RIGHT ON etc... I hate to consciously resist my urges and for the most part stick with what I found online. Thanks to the internet, this boy likely won't question what is written on his cake.

This is a chocolate chip cake with chocolate icing. Covered in fondant, airbrushed, and embellished. The boy is gum paste, as is the skateboard. The railing is made up of skewers painted with a mix of silver and black airbrush color.

Overall, I'm very happy. My 5 year old thinks it's the coolest cake I've ever made. My 8 year old says it's not... he likes the monster trucks better. ha ha

Anyway... Happy Birthday to Anthony!

Happy 1st Birthday Lily Ladybug!

When you order a custom cake, it's just that, CUSTOM! There are very few rules. Often questions are asked regarding what I "can" and "can't" do... If it isn't copyrighted and your budget allows for it, we "can" generally do it.

This was one of those cakes... Yes, ladybugs are generally red or brown. BUT it's a custom cake... make it any color you want! Want some bling??? No problem! And you know, I have to say, it's WAY cuter than it would have been if we followed all the rules.

Have fun with your cakes. They should be reflective of you and your style. And if you can dream it up... we can probably make it edible!
