A Triple Celebration Cake.

I love fun cakes where the client tells me to do whatever I want because they trust me! This particular cake is for a triple Birthday, a 33rd, a 30th, and a 2nd.

They asked that the cake be really fun and festive and not gender specific. It was also requested that the cake say "Weaverpalooza" because that is what they are calling their Birthday celebration event.

When the client came to pick it up she was thrilled and said it is "Sooooo Weaverpalooza!". I love it when a client is thrilled!

Happy Birthday Devon (Mama Cheaps), Bob, and Lily!!!

Cake Stats: Double Chocolate Cake with Buttercream filling. Iced in buttercream and covered with fondant. The stars shooting out of the cake are gum paste and painted with a little pearl shimmer and disco dust. They are mounted on wires and slid into skinny straws in the cake. The Curly Q's are gum paste. The shimmer on the black fondant is hologram disco dust.

Taking a Break from Cakes to have some Labor Day Weekend Fun!

Friends of ours moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia roughly ten years ago. Back in 2002 or 2003 they bought a house on a "ditch" off of the Chesapeake Bay. They've got a dock, two wooden Kayak's that Brent made himself. A wooden boat that Brent also made (can you tell he's a carpenter?) and an open home. We've been hearing for years that we need to plan a trip and visit. But as it goes... life kept getting in the way. The last time they came back "home" we got out my calendar and blocked off a weekend so I wouldn't take ANY cake orders and we made plans for a Labor Day trip to the Eastern Shore.

Nancy in her Kayak that was lovingly made by her husband Brent.

Our host Brent in his custom made Kayak.

What a fantastic time we had! The kids had a blast playing on the dock terrorizing the Fiddler Crab's and Blue Crabs (and quite frankly so did I!).

This is a fiddler crab I caught for the kids. It's unbelievably small. So small that you can see my wedding band in the photo next to it. Yep, that's my hand. He's not much bigger than a deer tic!

We were able to go on several kayak outings and even got to go fishing in the bay off of Brent's boat. It wasn't ALL pleasure... Brent's family used to own Country Manor Bakery here in Warminster so I got to pick his brain on some things and talk a little shop. Not too much though! This was a weekend vacation!

Thanks so much to Brent and Nancy for a fabulous time. I'm positive we won't wait another 10 years before making another trip south. And make sure your neighbors get a hearty Thank You for allowing us to use their Kayak's!

...He was taking a break.

Braden being "Braden".

Matt and Garrick in the Kayak. Garrick loves Kayaking and has decided he wants his OWN child sized Kayak so he can go all by himself... hummmmmm

My son Garrick enjoying a sunset boat trip.

Braden decided that he needed "binoculars". I love how the lighting turned out in this photo.

And this is my favorite photo. I'm not photogenic AT ALL! So I was thrilled that my husband got such a great shot of Braden and I enjoying our boat outing.

Our last trip out in the Kayak.

TCC Cupcakes at a Dee Adcock for Congress Open House.

My parents have known the Adcock's for years and many people in the local community have shopped at Adcock Pool Supply. Adcock is a well known name in Bucks and Montgomery County. Dee Adcock is currently campaigning to be elected into the 13th Congressional District. When a friend asked about getting cupcakes for an open house to support Dee, I was thrilled to help.

These are seriously patriotic cupcakes. The cake itself is layered in Red, White, and Blue using Red Velvet Cake, White Almond Sour Cream (WASC) Cake, and Blue WASC. Then they are swirled with buttercream and topped with a little sparkle along with red and blue stars.

A Girlie Purse Cake for an Adorable Girlie Girl.

This is an 8" round vanilla cake with chocolate ganache filling. The purse is the same. The customer asked that the purse have a "beachy" theme and that I use pinks and purples. So the little compact is an oyster shell, a girlie pair of shades, the buckle on the purse is a shell, and there are shells scattered all around. This was the first time I had to sculpt make-up and I have to admit that my favorite is the eye shadow. It looks so real!

Happy Birthday Alexis!

For Girls... It's ALL About Shoes & Jewelery!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I LOVE doing girlie cakes!!! This one is especially cool because it has an edible gum paste shoe (my first) and lots of raspberry flavored edible gems. The only non-edible element on this cake are the Swarovski crystals on the front of the shoe.

This cake is for a 6th Birthday for a very girlie girl!

Instructions for making edible gems can be found by following the link on the left. Once you get the hang of it, it's really not that difficult at all and I find it fun to try and make "perfect" gems. Crazy.. I know!

Slay the Dragon!!!

I had a client contact me about a cake for her daughter's Sweet 16 and she was looking for a Jabberwocky. They were planning an Alice In Wonderland theme Birthday Party and wanted to be able to "slay the dragon" at cake time. She was also looking into getting Petit Fours with labels that say "eat me", etc. Really cute idea. The Jabberwocky... Not so cute! This was the first time I spoke to a cake while I was working on it and told it to stop creeping me out. HA!

This is the second dragon cake I've done in a few months for a Sweet 16. I don't know... I always thought of a Sweet 16 as a sort of Prissy/Frilly event. I guess I'm wrong. Dragons seem to be the in thing.

Meet the Jabberwocky!

A Perfectly Pink Gift Bag for a Chic Juicy Girl.

It is so much fun to sit and make things pretty. And in all honesty, could a pink gift bag get any more adorable? With the bows by the twisted rope handles and the gems scattered on the cake board, it's like a girlie explosion!

This is two 8" square cakes cut in half and stacked into two tiers. The base of the gift bag was iced before I set the top tier on so that there would be adequate icing for each serving. It's odd to have a cake tiered so that you can't see the tiers. But it works out well when it comes to serving the cake to your guests.

The tissue paper is gum paste and everything you see is edible. The pattern on the front of the bag is a combination of painting and cutting gumpaste from a template.

Happy Caking!

Today I built a car...

A 1966 Chevy Chevelle to be exact. The car is carved from two half sheet pound cakes with a layer of chocolate ganache between.

It always amazes me how much cake I have to bake in order to get down to the final product. But it does look cool! The bride asked that the car be black with white stripes and that the couples names appear on the license plate.

The fun part for me comes after the cake is carved and crumb coated. That is when I'm able to start building up the detail work on the car. One layer at a time. It's at this stage that I'm able to add all the little things that differentiate one car from another.

I've often been asked for instructions on how I build my cars and trucks. Honestly... I don't have any. I use several photographs and just keep working at it until the shape and lines match the reference enough that the car is distinguishable. And with every car I tackle, I learn something new that can help me with the next project.

Enjoy!

A Tail Waggin' Grooms Cake

Here is a grooms cake for a client. The dog is modeled after the client's pet. Wedding bands sit on the pillow.

White Almond Sour Cream cake with Raspberry filling (home made of course!) Cake is iced in buttercream and covered in fondant.

I airbrushed the base of the cake with doggy spots before applying the design. It adds a little dimension and brings the pet down into the cake a little more.

As a grooms cake, I went with the colors in the dog to keep it "manly".

Happy Caking!

A little deer hunter...

A Birthday Cake for a young man who likes to hunt. Last hunting season he got an 8pt deer and was very proud of his accomplishment. Mom wanted to remember that happy moment on his Birthday Cake. Everything is hand sculpted. The antlers, bow, arrow, and shovel handle are NOT edible. Everything else is.

Okay... the shovel and the hole... I know... looks like he shot the deer just so he can bury it. BUT mom said he dug a big hole (I don't remember why) and wanted a hole dug with a shovel, dirt, and rocks. On a cake this size, it really looks like something else is going on. But in reality, it's just one of the things I was asked to include.

This is a vanilla cake with peanut butter cup filling.
