A 5 Cake Weekend! From Sesame Street to the Daytona 500.

This week almost did me in! I bought all my supplies on Monday. Then started making icing, fondant, fillings, and baking on Tuesday. On Wednesday more baking and more fondant making. By Thursday night (or rather Friday morning at 3am) I was almost done with 3 cakes. Friday was the last day of caking and the finishing work went on one cake and the two stacked girlie cakes and the smash cake were finished. We even had time to go out and have dinner and fellowship with some good friends on Friday night. I think I'll need a nap today but all 5 cakes were either delivered or picked up by 11am this morning.

I would call that a very busy but very successful caking week! Enjoy the photos! And yes, there is a repeat cake in this bunch. It's been snowing a lot in Southeastern, PA and too much snow can really put a damper on a little girl's Birthday Party!

Family Birthday Weekend and some cake overload!

Friday I had a tasting for a client and baked up a storm of cake and filling flavors. Of course a tasting is just that, a "tasting" and therefore I had TONS of cake leftover. So... when we had guests on Friday evening, we had Cake Sundae's for dessert. It worked out great! I had 5 cake flavors on the table and 5 toppings/fillings/icings for them to choose from. It was so fun to mix and match all the different combination's and amazing to see how many different "favorites" there were at the table. Of course I provided some ice cream for the kids to pair with their cake but they only went back for 2nd's and 3rd's of cake. The little sweeties! (wink)

Saturday morning I got up and started baking again to make my son's 7th Birthday cake. He wanted a crane. Giving credit where credit is due... my darling husband made the arm of the crane. He used copper wire and soldered the cross bracing. His skills are so appreciated. We had a late start but it did get completed and he was very happy. The Lego Brick cake was for my nephew's 4th Birthday as we celebrate all the Birthday's for a month together. Of course my nephew decided he'd rather have the crane. Duh! I could have saved myself a little work had I asked the little bugger! Anyway, it was a successful although very busy weekend.

Happy caking!

Antarctica Over the Hill Cake

This cake was ordered by a client for her husband's 40th Birthday. They just returned from a trip to Antarctica and considering we were slammed with a snow storm this weekend, we thought the theme for his 40th Birthday cake was fitting. So... he's "over the iceberg".

I love how it turned out. I've been wanting to learn sugar work for a long time and am thrilled with the iceberg and water. Happy Caking!!!

Pink, Brown, Hearts, Bows, Gems, and Zebra Stripes...

Happy Birthday Rebecca! This 6 year old wanted a zebra striped cake with pinks, browns, a tiara, gems, bows, and hearts. It was a step by step process to incorporate it all and have it look complete but I like how it turned out.

Unfortunately, they are predicting a HUGE winter storm and Rebecca's mom might have to order a 2nd cake for the rescheduled party. It was scheduled at a Candy Shop in Doylestown, PA. Oh well... Let it snow!

A Sophisticated Cookie Monster

Happy 1/2 Birthday Cori! Last year I was the After School Program Supervisor for a local Christian School. Cori is a student there and her mother is my chiropractor. Cori's Birthday is in August so she never gets to celebrate with her classmates. So this year, she got permission to celebrate her 1/2 Birthday so she could celebrate at school. She loves cookie monster. Since she's in the 6th grade, I wanted it to be more of a "classy" Cookie. Enjoy Cori!!!

This is a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and covered with Marshmallow Fondant. I decided that I'd try a taper since it is a smaller cake and I haven't tapered the base of a cake to be smaller than the top. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. It adds to the sophisticated look and makes it a little different.

Of course the taper made placing the diamonds a challenge as the spacing changes with each row of diamonds. But it worked and I can't wait for her to see it!
