A Lion, a Monkey, & Bear... OH MY!

If you've hung around my blog for any length of time, you know I'm drawn to "cute" stuff. So this cake was right up my alley. The relatively simple although time consuming design was perfect compliment to the cute little critters that graced the top of the cake. The inspiration came from the party decorations and the little man's bedroom. The actual design of the animals was a combination of my imagination and some pictures I found online.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that finds these little critters adorable. Especially since I'm the one that sculpted them. I just love how precious they are and how sweet the little giraffe looks.

This is the smash cake (cake specifically for the 1 year old to "smash" as is tradition in most of the US) with a 1 and a little monkey on top. I'm particularly drawn to the expression on the monkey's face. It's almost as if he knows what the little hand coming toward him is about to do.

The bottom border of the cakes have these vertical stripes that were cut into 1" strips. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, although it was somewhat time consuming. I cut up the leftover strips of fondant to use as confetti.

In the end, I was able to deliver the cakes to a very happy mother who gave me a hug and said she would see me for Birthday #2. Success!

Jungle Theme Baby Shower Cake

Made this at the request of one of my husband's co-workers. She's throwing a shower for a friend and wanted the cake to match a blanket the couple has for the baby's room.

Pound cake with homemade raspberry filling. Yummy!

Nursery Friends Baby Shower Cake

How do I pick a favorite cake when each weekend I get to do a cake with its own unique theme that has so many great elements. I just love how cute this cake turned out. My client provided fabric swatches, plates, invitations, napkins, and anything else they had from the shower theme so I could match it. My instructions were to add the gingham check and make sure there was a cute giraffe sitting on a blanket.

So... this weekend... another new favorite. I just love my job!

Giraffe Baby Shower Cake to match bedding.

This is a baby shower cake to match a bedding set. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. It was a pain staking process as I acquired a new "tool" that I had to learn to operate in order to pull this cake off. If you have heard of the "Cricut", that's my new tool. It is intended for scrapbooking. However... I've adapted it to use with sugar paste so that I can cut ANY shape I want to put on the side of the cake without having to get custom cutters made or using a pattern and an x-acto knife. So... all the giraffe print from the bottom tier was cut with the cricut. The trees and giraffe on the top tier were also cut with the cricut. I spent most of my free time this week learning how to "make it work" but by last night, I could go to the computer, load my pattern, load my paste, and get my cut ON THE FIRST TRY!!

Happy 1st Birthday Ethan. Giraffe Birthday Cake.

Bottom tier is pound cake, top tier is chocolate crazy cake, giraffe is a smash cake for the Birthday Boy.

As requested, the cake is iced in buttercream with fondant accents. It turned out really cute. I'm thrilled that I was able to incorporate the smash cake into the overall design of the cake.

Happy 1st Birthday Ethan!!! Hey Mom... can we have a picture of Ethan with his cake for the blog???
